Penang is an island off the northwestern coast of Malaysia. While the beaches are beautiful, Penang holidays are more predominantly known for their multicultural history of Malay, Chinese, Indian, and European influences. The largest city on the island is Georgetown, which is the location most tourists choose to stay in, as it is a walkable city with lots to see.

Penang has an equatorial climate. The best months for tourism are January and February as those tend to be the driest months of the year. However, the temperature is fairly steady year-round, keeping between 22°C and 30°C. While January and February tend to be drier, the humidity is between 70% and 90% humidity most of the year. The most popular times for tourists is around Christmas, New Year’s Day, and Chinese New Year, all of which are spectacular holidays.

Sites that promote nature are the most popular attractions in the area. Some of the most popular sites include: the Penang Botanic Gardens, which hosts a small waterfall and hosts an annual international floral fest as well as a world music festival, the Bukit Jambul Orchid, Hisbiscus & Reptile Garden, and the Penang Butterfly Farm.

Penang is also well known for being the “food paradise” of Malaysia. The Chinese bakeries are exceptional and a visit to one of them is a must for any tourist. Penang offers plenty of delicious, authentic and cheap Malaysian food, but is famed throughout the rest of the country for its Malaysian specialties and is known for its culinary originality and diversity. Food stalls line the streets and it is easy to find good, local cuisine within walking distance of most Penang accommodation options.
